The Citroen SM was available with carbon fibre wheels.

More than forty years ago.

If you find a set now, they’re worth a fortune.

Frankly, the French are the global leaders in just about everything.

Seems like Jalopnik had an article about them two years ago so I’ve most likely read about them before but I totally forgot they existed.

The reason they’re so rare is they tended to delaminate when actually used. You really just see them on show cars now.

... like that time they were the first modern European army to try surviving a Russian winter?

Obvious joke is obvious... I’ll show myself out.

It seems like they’re a bit Top Gear. A bit ambitious but generally rubbish . They always innovated, but despite being ahead of the game they never really capitalized on it. These days the 3 French companies are all sharing the same boring cars, with the occasional tweak to make you think they’ve still got it. They’re watered down beyond all recognition because they just couldn’t cut it.

Makes me sad.
